My apologies; I don't speak Serbian, so I must rely on Google Translate. :P

I'm doing research about the treatment of transsexualism in Serbia (specifically, FTM transsexuals). How well does the Serbian medical system cover treatment (financially, availability, etc)? I've seen several research papers from Serbian medical institutions and know of two Serbian SRS surgeons, so clearly there are resources available; what I don't know is how well the state pays for the treatment of Serbian citizens, the quality of treatment, what the waiting lists are like, etc.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

That's a shame. Not even therapy or hormones?

I have a FTM friend from Macedonia who has a Serbian grandfather and was considering moving to Serbia after college, finding work, and applying for citizenship. I was trying to figure out what the current state of treatment is. I've been trying to help them find resources in Macedonia, but there's nothing.

Actually, it does pay.

For example, a Serbian citizen has to pay only about one third of a full price of his or her sex reassignment surgery (SRS), while a foreign citizen has to pay the full price for his or her SRS (ie. three times more then a citizen of Serbia).

Yes but this is not connected with the state or law or medical insurance. Prices are lower for Serbian citizens only because Miroslav Djordjevic have agreement with some people in hospitals.

Here for our citizens (for FTM) top surgery costs 2000 euros ,metaidioplasty costs 1600 - 2000 euros and phalloplasty 4 500 euros without penil protesys and testicals (protesys are 1000 e and testicals 1600 e).

specially not for hormones and therapy

I suggest you to tell your friend to contact dr Miroslav Djordjevic and ask him about this case.

I contacted my trans group coordinator and he told me that some guy Koča tries to open trans group in Macedonia. If your friend don't know about that let me know and I will find more information about that.
