I'm glad you're together for the summer. That must be real nice. I read the first ten pages or so, then got distracted. I'm easily distracted.

We've got Mystie and Csillag here. Csillag means star in Hungarian. In Szeged, I have a degu and a guinea pig. Their names are Nutkin and Twinkleberry, from The Tail of Squirrel Nutkin by Beatrix Potter.

do you get homesick for Belgrade? Do you miss hearing Serbian?

I'm homesick for Hungary and Szeged. It's not my native country, but I've lived longer in Szeged than in any other town, and it's sort of home to me. My stuff is at my friends' right now and when I get back I'm looking for a new flat. Hopefully I'll have better neighbours this time.

I dont really get homesick that much, and I do talk to my folks on skype quite often. But, I am here only since the end of April and going back first week of September.

You have someone looking after your pets in Hungary while you are away?

I had to leave Nutkin and Twinkleberry at the pet shop (with money, it wasn't too expensive just what I would have paid for food and bedding) for the summer, because my friends were either going to be out of town or they had small children. And degus are difficult to take care of. I knew that if I left them with my friends who have children Nutkin would lose his tail. And he likes his tail. His tail won't grow back if a small child pulls it off.

I'm here in AZ since the end of May. I was supposed to go back at the end of July, but it's too expensive, so we're waiting for the prices to go down. They will in September.

The bad thing that happened two years ago was next door neighbour / ex-boyfriend (tried to be straight. doesn't work.) and he's sort of been stalking me ever since. So my friends suggested I move.

Yeah, that's him! I don't know how to say it in Serbian. He's very cute and very active. He's kind of like a squirrel without a bushy tail. But he bites. Which if you think about it isn't so bad because once he bit me and I had to wash blood off my shoes and then my shoes were clean. They hadn't been clean for a long time.

He's really impatient. When he starts squirming, it means "put me back in my cage ODMAH" and if it takes you more than 30 seconds he goes CHOMP.

To be honest, I dont know how much I'd like having a pet prone to biting

This is the first sentence I learned in Serbian. You can say it to Nanny.

Ušetala sam u uličicu i zaglavila sam se. Imam više kobasice na sebi nego mesar.

I made my friend translate it for me, before I was really learning Serbian, it's a song lyric "Walked down an alley and I got stuck, I got more rolls than a pastry truck" but you have to say more sausages than a butcher in Serbian.

I think it's a fun sentence.

yeah. i'm sooooooooo happy. and i can't believe my friends still like me...I was only going away for two months and they said i could keep all my junk at their house, and it ended up being five months and everything is fine between us. and my other best friend just came back to Subotica from Germany, so I'm going to see her soon. She says my Serbian is good. probably because i use cases now and because I said "lepo pajki" and "smorila sam se u Arizoni" (among other things) and maybe she didn't expect me to know those phrases. I wonder what she'll say if I say "đasvi mi se". I'll have to wait till it comes up in conversation.

I reallly need to practice talking and listening though. I understand BBC/serbian news when I listen to it on the internet, but I don't understand everything on Radio Televizija Vojvodine (we don't seem to have RTS in Szeged anymore?) Maybe I have to learn to speak vojvođanski.
