Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has appealed to the citizens to avoid incidents during the Belgrade Pride Parade on Sunday and announced the police would implement the highest measures of security to ensure the event goes smoothly.
"I appeal to all citizens not to cause conflicts tomorrow. It is very important that the event, which might be disagreeable to most of Serbia's citizens, goes by without incidents," Dacic said in Belgrade.
According to him, the parade is guaranteed by the constitution, so the police are under obligation to provide the best security possible.
"It is even more of an obligation since diplomatic corps representatives will be attending," Dacic noted, adding that there are special plans and teams preparing the operation, and that a number of streets will be closed during the event.
"The interest of the entire country and the police is to have no incidents at the Pride Parade, to have a peaceful event. All those who have different views can express that in various ways, but not through violence against those who are exercising their constitutional rights in organizing the parade," Dacic stressed.
