A coordinated activity by the LGBT community in several Serbian cities – Public announcement

belgrade · odabrao: m · 06. Oct 2013

Another Pride Parade has been banned, and Serbia has once again bowed before holligans, fascists and thugs, both inside and outside the establishment. In a state that discriminates between its citizens on the basis of sexual orientation, race, gender, nationality; in which membership in political parties and nepotism are often the only way to obtain work or quality healthcare; in which fundamental human rights and basic democratic principles are trampled day after day - we believe that the time has come for citizens to come together and demand that the state start dealing with problems.

For this reason, members of the LGBT community from all corners of Serbia have initiated the project AktivaciJA! (Activation!). Our goal is to use joint forces and street activism in order to combat discrimination, fight for the equality of all citizens of Serbia, encourage tolerance and acceptance, and oppose injustice, violence and fascism which have been holding back our society for decades.

The overnight coordinated pasting of posters in Belgrade, Niš, Vršac, Kruševac, Pirot and Bečej is meant to call attention to the state's hypocrisy and incompetence, and to serve as an introduction to future activities aiming to encourage citizens to solidarity and active, vocal demands for politicians' responsibility for issues that burden us every day. The activity will continue in other cities over the following days and weeks.

The official page for the project is facebook.com/AktivaciJA.SRB. We urge everyone to join us in demanding and creating a better Serbia for all its citizens.
