Journalist Danica Vučenić named godmother of Belgrade Pride 2026

Journalist Danica Vučenić will be the godmother of Belgrade Pride 2026, the organizers announced. This year’s Pride march takes place in Belgrade on September 5.

In their citation, the organizers said that at a time when free media, human rights and democratic values are under growing pressure, Vučenić stands as an example of professional consistency, civic courage and solidarity.

Vučenić began her career in 1990 at Radio Belgrade and went on to report for Radio Free Europe. She spent the largest part of her career, a full 13 years, at the broadcaster B92, where she co-hosted the influential interview show “Kažiprst” and edited the station’s news programming.

She famously left the public broadcaster RTV after ruling-party officials objected to a guest on her talk show. “My job is to ask questions and seek answers from everyone in public and political life. I have been pushed into one-sidedness and I refuse to take part in it,” she said at the time. She later returned to journalism with the investigative newsroom Insajder, and since 2021 she has hosted the nightly program “Iza vesti” (Behind the News) on N1.

She has received numerous awards for ethics, courage and anti-corruption reporting. Despite years of pressure and threats over her work, Vučenić remains one of the most consistent journalistic voices in Serbia, and as Pride godmother she joins the public figures who openly stand with the LGBT+ community.
