Belgrade Pride march today: gathering from 4 p.m., setting off at 5 p.m. from Manjež

The central march of this year’s Belgrade Pride takes place today. Participants gather from 4 p.m. in Manjež Park, when the entry points open, and the march itself sets off at 5 p.m.

The route leads from Manjež along Nemanjina Street, then Kneza Miloša and Kralja Milana, across Nikola Pašić Square to the National Assembly, before returning via Kneza Miloša and Nemanjina to the park. After the march, gates for the concert in Manjež open at 6 p.m., and streets along the route will be temporarily closed to traffic during the afternoon.

“The Pride march, as the protest at the heart of Pride Week and its most important segment, is an opportunity for LGBTI+ people to publicly voice their discontent over the absence of laws regulating their lives,” the organizers said, noting that discrimination and violence remain widespread in society and too often go unpunished.

Pride, they stress, is “an act of visibility and courage,” but also a message of solidarity to those LGBTI+ people who still cannot live freely and authentically — because, as they put it, the community marches for them too.

This year’s Pride godmother is journalist Danica Vučenić, and drag performer Vlažena is the Pride queen. Organizers are inviting LGBTI+ people, allies, and all fellow citizens to join the march in a shared struggle for equality, dignity and freedom for all.
