Malo je tema koje toliko evociraju strah i zadovoljstvo, bol i nadu, diskusiju i ćutnju kao što je to seksualnost. Tokom čitave hrišćanske ere seksualnost je glavna moralna preokupacija. Od osamnaestog veka ona je takođe u fokusu “naučnog” istraživanja i političke aktivnosti. Ali, uprkos ovom opsesivnom interesovanju mi smo i dalje zbunjeni onoliko koliko i naši preci u pogledu “istinskog” značenja seksa. U ovoj knjizi Jeffrey Weeks otkriva gustu mrežu istorijskih, teoretskih i političkih sila koje doživljavaju kulminaciju u savremenoj krizi seksualnih značenja i vrednosti.
Knjiga kreće sa upečatljivim prizivanjem naših savremenih nelagodnosti i njihovih moćnih znakova: uspon Nove desnice, povlačenje progresivnih snaga i talas moralne panike u vezi sa seksom. Autor ispituje radikalne debate koje su se vodile poslednjih godina, i pita da li one sadrže potencijal da nas odvedu izvan postojećih granica seksualnosti. Iz ove analize pomalja se kontraverzan “radikalno pluralistički” pristup seksualnosti izgrađen na prihvatanju različitosti i izbora.
