Da li neko moze da mi objasni odakle potice fraza "get on like a house on fire"?

Trazila sam po netu, ai nisam nasla poreklo.

Skroz neobicna fraza, na prvi pogled sam pomislila da je negativnog znacenja, ali nije.

Drugo pitanje je vezano za izgovor reci kao sto je npr. basically.

Da li se cuje vokal (ono grleno A, ne znam kako se to zove) izmedju K i L, ili odmah nakon K sledi L u izgovoru?

da, ono prvo sam i ja nasla, to su podaci gde se prvo pominej taj izraz u literaturi, mene je vise zanimalo odakle to potice, kako je uslo u govor, kao sto je npr interesantno poreklo fraze "whatever you get your kicks from"


"Kicks" is a relatively old slang term for amusement, fun or something which elates you. Like many slang terms with staying power, it comes to us from the drug culture. A "kick" originally meant the feeling you got from the "horse" which was a term for heroin. Later, Frank Sinatra would sing "I get no kick from champagne, mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all... but I get a kick out of you..." So doing something "for kicks" meant originally to experience the (often illicit or secret) thrill, and later came to mean to do it just for the fun of it. The phrase "get your kicks" comes from another old song, "Route 66," in which Nat King Cole sang

Sto se ovog drugog tice, tako stoji po (online) recnicima, ali sam primetila da Amerikanci cesto izgovaraju sa vokalom izmedju K i L, pa me zanima da li je to kao kad npr. kod nas napisu "majca" za majicu, ili dozvoljeni varijetet.

Ja bih napisao

"as a way of thank you, I'm sending you this and that."

ili u krajnjem slučaju

"as a way of thanking you, I send you this and that."

ili ako ćemo da ga prećeramo

"As a token of my most sincere gratitude, I am sending you..."

necemo bas toliko da preterujemo

ako zelis bas nesto klise moze is 'token of my appreciation', to je bas standardan izraz.

a izmedju ona 2 ponudjena u mom postu?

da li su oba korektna i da li se koriste uopste?

Ovo je pogresno zbog "in." Ako "in" promenis u "as" onda bi bilo ok sto se tice gramatike ali ipak nije bas uobicajeno.

To su gotovo sinonimi i znače, jelte, posebno...

Samo što specially ti znači posebno, u smislu da je urađen na poseban, drugačiji način, za određenu svrhu.

Especially ti je više kada hoćeš nešto da naglasiš, kada je nešto posebno, drugačije, ali na način da se treba primetiti ili je primetljivo.
